  Krishnan will be overseeing the rollout of the recently enacted Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, which is the outcome of almost five years of five years of drafts and consultations. From a digital economy perspective, there are some good features in the DPDP act but it also has some gaps which have been identified by several legal experts.

  

• Biggest exemptions of Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2023 and more

  India's Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) bill has been approved, bringing rights and obligations to data users and processing companies of a person's digital personal data. Amongst its provisions are duties of "Data Fiduciaries" for how they carry out digital data processing, with "penalties for breach of rights, duties and obligations," and the protection of Data Principals. Additionally, the bill seeks to "enhance the Ease of Living and the Ease of Doing Business."Exceptions for certain services exist relating to security, sovereignty, public order, etc. and India's digital economy and innovation ecosystem are also supported.

  Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 'Semicon India 2023', a premier showcase of India's semiconductor capabilities and chip design innovation, on July 28 in Gandhinagar, according to an official release issued on Sunday.
